Exosomes in Skincare

Keaton Migneault

Skin care has been around since the earliest of civilizations. The Ancient Egyptians were the first to use items such as olive oil, honey, and different herbs to care for their skin. They would even mix cooper and toxic lead ore as a form of sunscreen! Over the years, and progression into modern times, the science of skincare has come a long way. The newest wave in skincare is the introduction of exosomes.

The biology of our bodies is pretty amazing. The way the body systems, tissues, and cells talk and interact with each other is wild. But how exactly do they interact, or lack for better words, talk to each other? Well, the answer are exosomes.

Exosomes are the bodies “message in a bottle”. Cell’s produce exosomes and send them out to deliver important information to other cells. These can be messages to repair, build proteins, rejuvenate, or even die.

In skin care, we need the exosomes that are responsible for repairing and rejuvenation. They are filled with antioxidants, peptides, and mRNA. This is where the brand (plated) comes into play. (plated) took exosomes from platelets, one of the components of blood, from young healthy blood donors. As we get older, we start making less and less of these exosomes. The exosomes in platelets are some of the most rejuvenating exosomes in the body. (plated) won the TIME Magazine Invention of Year 2024 Award!

These tiny, but mighty, particles work wonders once absorbed into the skin. Once applied it takes about 5 minutes for the exosomes to deliver their messages and start telling the skin what to do from (plated). You will notice an improvement in tone and texture, shutting down redness from rosacea, and tighter and firmer skin with the production of collagen and elastin. Apply right after cleaning and make sure to wait the full 5 minutes. Then you can follow up with the rest of your skin care. After just a few weeks of use, you will notice the improvement and get that youthful glow!
